I didn't watch it, but answer me this. How overweight is Aaron? Because his picture doesn't really make it look like he's overweight much.
And how do people get voted off? If they don't lose weight, or if they cheat, or if they're just an a-hole?
I think this is on against Gilmore Girls, so I don't know if I'll watch, but I'm intrigued. Hope you keep posting about it.
On tonight's episode, Aaron was listed at 261 (!!!) pounds--he totally does not look it in clothes, though shirtless, he has some surprisingly serious man-breasts. In all honesty, his body looks like that of someone who was once MUCH larger, but who lost a lot of weight very quickly.
There are two teams that compete to lose weight--the team that loses the most total poundage gets "immunity" or whatever; the other team has to vote someone off. The person voted off tonight was chosen because he/she didn't have that much weight to lose and so would have hurt the team. Don't know what they'll do next week with unevenly-matched teams, though (5 and 6 members).
I so freaked out watching this show tonight. I was shocked to see Kelly Mac, because I know her. She was here in Portland years ago, doing the stand up thing and waitressing at my favorite Mexican restaurant. She wasn't large, but was just as cute and very funny. She was best friends with this guy I had a crush on, Big Gay USM Chris. He would dance with me all night, then hook up with someone else, and she would let me weep on her shoulder. I love her. I haven't seen her in years and was shocked that she gained weight.

That's crazy, J.Go!
I, too, could not tear myself away. I thought it was fairly good, except for the obnoxious music they kept playing whenever they showed Maurice (or really anyone else, for that matter) walking up to the scale. Dun Dun DUN. Okay, he's big, we GET it.
aaron flipped me out when it said he was that big, too. his face looks SO MUCH thinner. i love the girls on this. i think they all have better attitudes than the guys do. it also seems to me that the teams are a little unfair. i mean.. when they were weighed it was like, 1059 to 1070 or something like that. but it seems to me that judging strictly based on weight loss as opposed to PERCENTAGE (?) or something like that gives one team a handicap. but i'm sure they thought of all this...
I love, love, love this show! I could totally relate. How many times has Max comforted me when I have my "I just don't know what to eat" breakdowns? It is so good. They can totally exploit these people under the guise of helping them.
I really want to watch this, but it's up against "Gilmore Girls" so I haven't. I wish they'd move it to Mondays. I got NOTHIN' on Mondays.
Sadly, my "comfort" of Amanda often consists of my saying, "Honey, would it make you feel better if I let you take me out and buy me some ice cream." I'm such a good friend.
Two very good issues here in the comments: Amanda's right, these people are being exploited. I hate the fact that they're cut losse and NOT sent to a spa or some kind of nutrition program place or something. I mean, if I was humiliated and kicked off a show, you'd know where to find me: At the bottom of an empty bag of Jeno's Pizza Rolls.
Also, sar's right--winners (okay, "losers," dammit) should be judged based on **percentage** of weight lost. I know that might not be as dramatic as total pounds lost, but NBC could jazz it up with graphics and music or something. Otherwise--not to sound like a sexist pig--it's a man's game, baby. Everybody knows that guys, especially BIG guys, lose major tonnage in the early parts of a diet. Matt and Ryan will probably dominate (I'm sorry, but Maurice is too wrapped up in the Southern-nightmare-diet trap for me to put any faith into him). I'm eager to see next week's weigh-in and how it all works.
There should be a question mark after "ice cream," I meant "loose" instead of "losse," and I should have written "If I WERE kicked off." My bad.
