You have to wonder if a room full of monkeys is making the programming decisions over at Fox. The put the calendar on the wall, then throw some poop at it. Whatever sticks gets renewed for another week.
Seriously, they can't even get "run the last 6 episodes of Tru Calling" right. I mean, how hard is that? As hard as running the episodes of Firefly and Wonderfalls in the order that they were created, apparently. TV viewers are constantly accused of having short attention spans, but honestly, I think it's the network execs that really suffer from it.
I bet it's a cynical marketing ploy.
Rip show off air prematurely.
Wait a while.
Play one or two bait episodes.
Sell a CD so you can find out how the series ended.
What's stupid is that it sounds like they're running all of the final 6 episodes ... except the last one. Which they'll probably run a few months from now. And yeah, no doubt they'll time it perfectly to coincide with the release of a DVD box set that has both Season 1 and the six Season 2 eps. Because the Season 1 box set was already released in November.
Which just means that Fox really has no idea how to create viewer loyalty. No only will less people watch the finale if they leave people waiting like this, but the ones who do will feel so cheated for having to wait that they'll be less likely to watch shows on Fox in the future. Nice plan.
I am extremely gun shy to watch any type of serial drama on fox. They pimp shows for months and then give it two episodes to pan out. its ridiculous.
Something else I saw that was interesting (sorry, no link)...Arrested development averages about 6.7 million viewers and they are thinking of cancelling it. that 70's show averages about 7.4 million and they quantify that as a success.
Fox is losing more and more of my respect every day. Taking off Arrested Development is the biggest mistake. If the marketing department over there could get off their butts, they would have a number 1 hit on their hands.
I think I'm boycotting Fox now.
